Day 6: Final Projects and Cape May Zoo Trip - Farewell Friends!

July 26, 2019

We can hardly believe that today was the last full day of camp! We finished our rain water barrels and sampled some water from Lake Fred, launched our rockets, tested our last chemistry mix, and debated Constitutional rights in our cyberage. We traveled down to the Cape May County Park and Zoo to install our rain barrels and share our research with the zoo guests. Most importantly, we made lifelong friends, and we're one day closer to becoming alumnae, Tech Trek forever!

As our fifth camp comes to a close, we'd like to thank all our volunteers, our teachers, our Professional Women, our families who shared their children with us, and our donors for all your support.

Day 5: Back to Core Classes, More Workshops, and Professional Women's Night!

July 25, 2019

Our campers had another action-packed day of hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math activities. Core classes are preparing for their finales tomorrow, testing rockets, mixing more chemicals, cracking codes, and of course, putting the finishing touches on the rain barrels we'll bring to the Cape May County Zoo tomorrow.

Tonight was our Professional Women in STEM Career Dinner with Speed Networking rounds. We met aerospace, civil, and mechanical engineers, biologists, chemists, technologists, mathematicians and data scientists, physicians, physicists, opticians, and financial analysts, just to name a few professions. Most importantly, we learned what our inspirational guests studied to enter their professions, and how they've succeeded in narrowing the gender gap in STEM.

Campers are now filling notebooks with contact information to keep in touch with new mentors and friends, and making plans for getting back together. Many are already looking forward to becoming Tech Trek alumnae!

Join us tomorrow for the last (gasp!) full day of camp, back on Stockton University's Instagram Story.

Day 4: Field Trips! Nature Walk, Drone Flights, FAA Research, and Beach Seining!

July 24, 2019

Today we took a break from our core classes and workshops, split into two groups, and set out for an exciting set of educational adventures. One group cleared security to go "behind the fence" at the Federal Aviation Administration Tech Center, where we met women aeronautics engineers, air traffic controllers, and pavement testing researchers. We learned about chemical and mechanical solutions to safety challenges in aircraft, got inside both fire trucks, and compared the features of each. Our bus also toured the 5000 acre grounds of the entire aviation campus, which includes its own nature preserve, the Tech Center, the 177th ANG, the Coast Guard Helicopters, and ACY Airport.

Back on our Stockton campus, another group walked through the Stockton lakes and forests, played some e-sports, and flew drones. After lunch, we reunited both groups at the Stockton Atlantic City campus, enjoying the rest of our day at the beach. We dragged a seine net and examined our catches, examined wave action in a scientific simulation tank, scoured the shore for seashells, and boarded the bus back to the Galloway campus.

After dinner, some of us watched a little tv (when else have we had time for that!?), some of us launched bottle rockets and re-chalked our walk, and now that the weather has finally cleared, some of us got our volleyball on!

Follow us live tomorrow on the Stockton University Instagram story as we head back to Core Classes and get ready for Professional Women's Night.

Day 3: All the Core Classes, and some Great Workshops Too!

July 24, 2019

Wow, this has been our busiest day yet! In our Core Classes, we made slime, created binary code bracelets, inflated hot air balloons, and customized our rain barrels for the field trip Friday to the Cape May County Zoo. In the afternoon, a Futurist got us ready to create technologies that don't exist yet, a few more of us got to tour the Art Gallery and shop the Bookstore, engineer our own planes, fold some more light-up LED Origami and tie-dyed more t-shirts!

After that we had an impromptu pizza night, and started getting ready for our field trips tomorrow - oh, and the rain finally stopped, just as we got ready for lights out.

Check out our Instagram Story video, and follow us there again tomorrow to see how our field trips go!

Day 2: Core Classes, Workshops, and Ice Cream!

July 23, 2019

Today we began our core classes to try hacking (for good) into networks, understanding water as a precious resource, mixing up some chemicals, and testing Bernoulli's principle. As if that wasn't enough STEM fun, we designed aerodynamic folds for optimum lift, engaged in college planning activities, lit up some Origami models with LEDs, toured the Art Gallery, and tie-dyed our t-shirts! Just before the thunderstorm moved in, half of us made our own ice cream with liquid nitrogen, and the other half played games in our dorms, where we all wrapped up the night by laughing a lot, and singing even more.

Day 1: Moving in and Having Fun!

July 21, 2019

Welcome 2019 Tech Trek Campers! We took over the university's Instagram story today, featuring some fun video vignettes, and photos of our first adventures (ok, in our excitement, we’re still getting used to which way to hold the device!) Forty-six alumnae campers from 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 welcomed 60 brand new campers! We got to know our dorm-floor-mates, our classmates, and our camp volunteers. Our alumnae shared their wind turbine and sustainable housing designs, and shared some tips for making camp an unforgettable experience. We enjoyed great food (think ice cream) in the N-wing cafeteria, and practiced our first volleyball moves! Great news: we are all now back in the right Core classes and can’t wait to start tomorrow!

Tech Trek at Stockton: Alumnae Camp Shenanigans

July 20, 2019

Forty-three Tech Trek Alumnae Campers from 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 arrived at Stockton University for a weekend of hands-on STEM problem-solving. Now completing grades 8-11, this group of girls examined the unique environmental issues of specific locations where people live, and challenged themselves to design and model sustainable homes suitable for those locations. Campers will also design, construct, and test clean energy solutions, such as wind turbines, to go with their home designs.

Follow us LIVE on Stockton University's Instagram as we share their updates throughout the weekend. View the highlights from today!

Getting Ready for Tech Trek Camp!

July 18, 2019

Stockton University is proud to host Tech Trek 2019, part of a national AAUW girls-in-STEM program. In addition to 60 girls from nearly every county of New Jersey who've just completed 7th grade, this year we are welcoming back 45 alumnae campers from 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 to attend a Tech Trek Weekend Camp all their own!

Join us in supporting this year's campers as they experience hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math core classes, workshops, and field trips. Your gift at any level will keep you connected to our camp's progress from July 20 (Alumnae Camp!) through July 27 (the last day of Tech Trek Camp). Each night we'll post our social media stories right here so that all of our supporters can enjoy camp right along with our young scientists, engineers, technologists, and mathematicians.

Back by popular demand this year are special perks for donors at every level. Each year our campers tell our volunteers that their lives are changed by so many people they'd like to thank personally. These perks offer campers a chance to do just that - to share with you the impact that your generosity has on them.

On behalf of the now more than 200 Tech Trek New Jersey alumnae and 60 incoming campers, I'd also like to personally thank you for your support. Your generosity helps to inspire and motivate our young women to continue pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, at Stockton University and beyond.
