Tech Trek Memories Last a Lifetime

August 01, 2017

Dear Supporters and Friends,

Thanks to all of you, we are within striking distance - just $760 away - from our goal to raise $5,000 to make Tech Trek camp an ongoing success. With only 6 hours left of this campaign, we need your help! Please forward this message to anyone you know who shares our passion for recruiting and retaining more young women in STEM fields.

Day 6 of Camp - Final Projects and Packing Up

July 22, 2017

Wow! This week has flown by so quickly! Campers completed their rocket launch, rain barrels, coded music, 3D printing, and cybersleuthing, followed by another afternoon of hands-on workshops with women engineers, a geometric artist, Unifix cubes, more chemistry of cuisine, and another set of flashlights and lasers! Our volunteers have been gathering photographs into a shared drive or two, and we've set up a Camp Photos page that will continue to link to these growing collections.

Thanks to your support, we are more than 50% to this year's goal of raising $5000 to keep this week-long camp available to 8th grade girls for a nominal $50 fee. Please forward this message to others in your network who share our passion for encouraging more young women to pursue STEM fields.

Day 5 of Camp - we had mini-core class workshops and met dozens of Professional Women!

July 20, 2017

All week long campers have been hearing from each other about how fantastic their 9am-12pm core classes have been. So this afternoon, we all got a chance to sample at least one other core class for our workshop choices. The "real-feel" temperature outside may have been 108 today, but we felt cool as could be getting all dressed up for a dinner and speed networking night with Professional Women in STEM careers. Check out today's story for highlights:

Day 4 of Camp - we explored Stockton, the FAA, and Careers in STEM

July 19, 2017

We took a break from our 9-12 core class and 1-4 workshop schedule to enjoy a fun-filled 8am-8pm field trip day. We took an hour-long nature walk through Stockton's Pinelands Preserve, collecting tree barks, leaves, flowers, pine cones, and photos of birds, bugs, and turtles. We flew a very wide variety of drones, and dragged our seine nets through Lake Fred to capture microscopic specimens. But wait, there's more! We went "inside the fence" at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) into the flight simulator, the pavement research center, and we heard the inside stories of several women leaders in aerospace engineering and operations careers. After dinner we took a STEM career quiz to find our STEM types and of course, we played a round of volleyball - dig!

Here are the highlights:

Day 3 of Camp - We Rocked, We Rolled, and We Ruled!

July 18, 2017

Campers on the first floor dorms agree: we rock! Second floor campers, well, we roll! And of course, the third floor campers rule! Throughout the day, Tech Trek campers enjoyed their second day of core classes, and explored many more workshops with Stockton faculty, staff, students, and alumni. We also accepted an engineering teamwork design challenge from the high school Science Enrichment Academy at Stockton (SEAS) campers - and we won! Many happy campers ended the night in a live Skype conversation with Danielle Feinberg from Pixar. Thanks to support from our donors, volunteers, and families, the girls are having the time of their lives, spending all day engaged in STEM activities. Thank you for making so many of their dreams come true!

Day 2 of Camp - we learned a lot!

July 17, 2017

Our first core classes! Cybersecurity, Earsketch, Makerspace, Our Water, and Rocket Science - oh my! Afternoon workshops were a blast, too: we engineered race cars, tie-dyed t-shirts, built a flashlight, ate magic (sweet=sour!) berries, made 3-D origami shapes, and created beautiful laser figures! We ended the night with a screening of Hidden Figures and whipped up some tasty potions in the lab. Can't wait for tomorrow!

Day 1 of Camp - we had fun!

July 16, 2017

Checked in, met roommates, played games with 2015 and 2016 alumnae, had our first camp lunch in the university dining hall, toured the campus, learned about science lab safety, and decorated our dorm doors - wow, what a first day!

Getting Ready for Camp!

July 16, 2017

Volunteers from AAUW and Stockton gathered to make seine nets, label camper t-shirts, stuff camper backpacks, and prepare workshop materials for the 2017 Tech Trek Camp. We are ready for campers to arrive!

Choose a giving level

Laser Focused

This level provides all the materials for a camper to build and make dazzling Lissajous parametric equation designs come to life with her own laser.

Field Trip Transportation

This level sends a camper for a half day insider's visit to the simulation labs and aeronautical research centers at the Federal Aviation Administration.

Give 10 Commemorative T-Shirts

This levels covers the cost of 10 commemorative t-shirts for the students.

Get the campers wet

This level covers all the expenses for all 62 of the campers to create seine nets that collect plankton and other fauna from beautiful Lake Fred to examine under microscopes.

Workshops that Work

This level covers the expenses of hands-on workshops in biology, chemistry and computer labs for the entire week.
